Professional accomplishment is also a significant component of our hiring decisions, and our tutors have become respected professionals in their fields, not only in the Singapore area, but also internationally. Just as important, we look for instructors with significant teaching experience, a dedication to student success, engaging teaching styles, and friendly and approachable personalities. New hires are trained in Manhattan Review's GRE syllabi, GRE research, and best practices in GRE instruction. We have meticulously screened our GRE educators so that our clients don't have to risk their future prospects on teachers of lesser ability. Manhattan Review Singapore students can be confident that our GRE services are provided by the best available GRE professionals the industry has to offer.
The seeds of Manhattan Review were planted in 1999 when Joern Meissner, then a doctoral student at Columbia Business School, earned a reputation for clearly explaining advanced and complex subjects while giving lectures to MBA students. A handful of these students expressed that Meissner's teaching style would translate well to preparation for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), and they challenged him to come up with a method of GMAT prep that was better than their previous unproductive and lackluster experiences. Meissner responded by creating original GMAT lectures that covered GMAT material using an efficient, simplified, and streamlined approach in language that was easy to understand. Students quickly agreed that this method was far superior to the style of memorization and "tricks" offered by other GMAT prep companies.
In the years since, Manhattan Review has grown into an international educational services firm, with branches not only in Singapore, but also major Asian, North American, European, and Australian cities. Our offerings have grown to include prep courses and private tutoring for the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, SAT, SSAT, ACT, ISEE, TOEFL, and IELTS, in addition to admissions consulting and application advisory services. Test prep for international applicants to universities in the English-speaking world has become one of our specialties, as a significant percentage of our student population lives outside of the United States, as well as Singapore and across Asia. We offer our test prep clients an unparallelled encyclopedic knowledge of American higher education and American standardized testing as well as thorough familiarity with the educational communities and specialized student needs in Singapore, as well as every metropolitan area we serve.
Joern Meissner is an internationally distinguished business school professor with a Diploma in Business Management at the University of Hamburg and a PhD in Management Science at Columbia Business School in New York City, one of the top Ivy League Schools. After finishing his doctoral degree, he chose the career trajectory of an academic and has now more than 25 years of experience as a postsecondary educator. His passion for teaching is evident, and he has taught business courses at the University of Hamburg, Lancaster University Management School, the Leipzig Graduate School of Management, and the University of Mannheim. Meissner's research on supply chain management, dynamic pricing, and revenue management has been published in several well-known and respected academic journals. While Professor Meissner thoroughly enjoys his research, he believes that grasping an idea is only half of the fun; conveying knowledge to others is even more fulfilling. This philosophy was vital to the establishment of Manhattan Review, and continues to remain its most cherished principle today.
